Interkultur i Lund is a non-profit association that supports new residents of Lund and the surrounding region ("Nya Lundabor"), to facilitate their establishment. Starting in February 2025, the association will offer an 8-week volunteer-based internship program, allowing participants to gain professional experience in one of our activity areas while also developing language skills and building social networks.

About Interkultur

Interkultur was founded in 2023 as an initiative by the basketball club IK Eos’ social sustainability program "Eos Cares". The aim of the association is to organize and empower the target group of "Nya Lundabor", in order to support their establishment.

Interkultur is a multi-sectional association, currently comprising six sections, each organising and supporting different segments of the target group:

-    Ukrainian Unity, Ukrainian-speaking

-    Al-Jasmin, Arabic-speaking

-    Anatolia, Turkish-speaking

-    Raha, Persian- & Dari-speaking

-    Social Hub, English-speaking

-    Português.Lund, Portuguese-speaking

Additionally, there is a seventh section, Kulturbro (Culture Bridge), which gathers established residents of Lund that are interested in meeting and supporting members of the other sections.

Every section offer social activities designed to meet the needs and interests of their members. Much of the work is carried out by members engaging as interns, volunteers, and activity leaders. For more information on ongoing activities, visit www.interkultur.nu/verksamhet.

Internship program at Interkultur

Between February 3, 2025, and March 30, 2025, Interkultur is offering internships within five activity areas:

  • Social Work (Swedish)

  • Education (Swedish)

  • Catering & Hospitality (Swedish)

  • Event & Social Media Management (English)

  • Community Management (English)

The internship entails a commitment of 20 hours per week, with the potential for full-time engagement based on the candidate's preferences. As a volunteer-based internship, it does not require prior approval from Arbetsförmedlingen (the Swedish Public Employment Service) or any other institution. However, participants can choose to apply for formal internship registration through Arbetsförmedlingen if they wish. Please note that Interkultur does not offer any compensation for the internship.

Internship in Community Management

The internship of the "Community Management" activity area consists of three parts:

  1. Experience within the activity area

As an intern, you will receive training and hands-on experience in the Interkultur/Social Hub model for community management. Among other things, you will learn how to set up community-building activities, and to involve and manage volunteers. The majority of your work will be related to the management of Language Cafés and other activities where there is significant interaction between new and established residents of Lund. These are mostly taking place on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

  1. Language & Communication Skills:

Activities to improve Swedish communication skills, complementing traditional Swedish language courses:

Tuesdays: “Lyssna på mig” - Presentation skills training in Swedish.

Flexible: “Language Accelerator” - Small-group conversational training led by a Swedish-speaking mentor.

  1. Career Development:

Activities to enhance understanding of the Swedish job market and develop personal employability:

Tuesdays: Networking seminar “Get in Touch & Grow Your Network” (in English).

Wednesdays: Employment-focused study circle.

Flexible: Meetings with "career mentors".

Interns may also participate in additional Interkultur activities, as of interest.

The Community Management activity area is offered in English. Interns will report to a supervisor responsible for scheduling and structuring their work, as well as conducting interviews at the start and end of the internship.

After completing the internship period, participants can reapply for new and continuous 8-weeks terms. An engagement over a longer period is encouraged, to favor skills development, language improvement, and networking opportunities.

Who should apply?

We are looking for candidates interested in community management, who want to develop personally and professionally while also helping participants in Interkultur's activities. No prior experience in the field is demanded, but having sufficient time and a genuine desire to contribute to the association’s activities is a must. A good conversational proficiency in English is necessary. While being fluent in Swedish is not required, familiarity with the language and the ability to use it in the everyday context will be highly appreciated.

How to Apply

Submit your application, including a cover letter and CV, to hr@interkultur.nu no later than January 19, 2025. Applications are reviewed continuously, so the earlier you apply, the sooner we can begin.
